Celebrity relationships frequently attract a great deal of media attention, with much rumour and speculation over whether these relationships are happy or whether they appear to be heading to the divorce court.

According to some recent reports in the media, a number of high profile couples whose relationships were already known to have come to an end have seen their divorces finalised in the last few months.

Conscious Uncoupling

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin apparently finalised their divorce last month, reports the BBC. The couple’s breakup hit the headlines in March 2014 when they announced their separation, describing it as a “conscious uncoupling”.  Gwyneth began formal divorce proceedings shortly afterwards on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

The couple had married in December 2003 and have two children together. It has been reported that under the terms of the divorce agreement, neither party will be liable to pay spousal support to the other.

Contentious Divorce

A second highly publicised divorce to be finalised recently is that of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

The couple had married in February last year, and separated this May. The subsequent divorce proceedings were at times highly contentious, with Amber alleging that Johnny Depp had been physically abusive towards her – claims that were denied by Depp.

The finalised divorce includes a settlement of $7 million for Amber Heard. She has now announced that she will give this money away to charity, reports the Daily Mail. Half will be given to the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and half to the American Civil Liberties Union, where it will apparently be used to help support the victims of domestic violence.

According to the news report, Amber Heard has also confirmed that she will not be taking any residuals from films made by Depp while they were married. As the couple had not signed a prenuptial agreement, she would have been legally entitled to a share of Depp’s earnings that were made during the couple’s marriage.

Dissolution of Marriage

Comedians Amy Poehler and Will Arnett also saw their divorce finalised this month, reports the Daily Mail.

The couple had been married for nine years before announcing their separation in 2012. A year and a half later, Arnett began divorce proceedings and the Superior Court of California has now granted a dissolution of marriage. Under the terms of the agreement, the couple will share custody of their two sons and neither will pay child or spousal support.
